Prevalence of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Saudi Arabia

Binamer Y, Samman O, Aldabagh A, Boushi J, Bouazzi D, Medianfar CE, Christensen R, Jemec GBE.

Introduction: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. The prevalence of HS is underreported worldwide; moreover, the epidemiological studies about HS in Saudi Arabia are scarce. Therefore, this study was performed to explore the prevalence in Saudi Arabia.

Prevalence of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Lyon: Results from the French Team of the Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Atlas Project

Guillem P, Vlaeminck-Guillem V, Beuque-Lévèque M, Chavrier C, Clerbout M, Enault C, Evain I, Fioretta M, Gadat AS, Gaspard S, Math S, Jemec GBE, Bouazzi D.

Introduction: The exact prevalence of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) remains elusive, in France as elsewhere. The Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Atlas (GHiSA) project is a unique opportunity not only to determine the exact prevalence in each participating center but also to help estimate the global prevalence and provide a basis for comparing centers with each other and obtaining potential pathophysiological indications.

Prevalence of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Serbia: Validation of a Screening Questionnaire

Jocic I, Dujovic B, Kandolf L, Bouazzi D, Medianfar CE, Christensen R, Jemec GBE, Mijuskovic Z.

Introduction: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by painful nodules and rupturing abscesses causing sinus tunnels and scarring, most commonly in the axilla, inguinal, perianal, and submammary areas. The global prevalence varies considerably, ranging from 0.00033% to 4.1%. To date, no epidemiological studies on HS have been conducted in Serbia. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of HS in Serbia.

Questionnaire-Based Global Prevalence of Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Zahid JA, Henning MAS, Bouazzi D, Jemec GBE.

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting intertriginous areas, presents a recurring and debilitating challenge. Even though recent efforts have been made to estimate the overall HS prevalence, variations in screening modalities and missing data from the Global South warrant further investigation. Understanding the HS prevalence is crucial for treatment approaches and pathogenesis. Thus, we aimed to estimate a global HS prevalence based on studies using homogeneous validated questions.

Prevalence of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Darmstadt, Germany: A Contribution to the Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Atlas

Steinmetz MI, Bouazzi D, Kovács M, Medianfar CE, Christensen R, Jemec GBE, Podda M.

Introduction: The knowledge of the epidemiology of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in Germany is currently insufficient. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of HS in Darmstadt, Germany, and contribute to the Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Atlas (GHiSA).

Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Epidemiology: Exploring Themes and Gaps beyond Europe, Australia, and the USA

Medianfar CE, Fernandez LI, Bouazzi D, Jemec GBE.

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Although a prevalence estimate has been proposed, this is based largely on studies from Europe, USA, and Australia. As literature on HS is scarce beyond these populations, our knowledge on epidemiology and clinical presentation from these areas are limited.
